Apple Pauses Ads on X After Elon Musk’s Antisemitic Backing

Apple is halting all advertising on X, a social network owned by Elon Musk. This move comes after Musk endorsed antisemitic conspiracy theories and reports surfaced of Apple ads appearing alongside far-right content. IBM had also paused its ads on this platform.

Why it matters: Musk faced criticism for backing an antisemitic post. Following this, Jewish rabbis urged major companies like Apple, Google, Amazon, and Disney to cease advertising on X and for Apple and Google to remove the platform.

The bigger picture: A nonprofit highlighted that ads from Apple, IBM, Amazon, and Oracle were shown alongside far-right content.

The situation: Musk’s post on X triggered wide condemnation, including from the White House. X’s CEO reaffirmed efforts against antisemitism, stating there’s no place for it globally.

In response: An X executive mentioned that they’ve acted on identified accounts and labeled specific posts as “Sensitive Media.” The platform clarified it doesn’t intentionally pair brands with such content.

What’s next: This move might trigger other advertisers to follow suit. Lions Gate Entertainment confirmed they are also pulling ads from X.
